WEDDING DAY BLESSINGS

WEDDING DAY BLESSINGS

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." (Numbers 6:24-26)

I am often asked about how to bless sons into manhood and daughters into womanhood. But rarely am I asked how to bless one's son or daughter on the day of their wedding. This question was posed to me recently by someone I had blessed at a recent conference, and with my oldest daughter's nuptials just around the corner, I found it a very fitting question indeed.

Marriage Redefined?

"Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift giving by the hand of his beloved Son." Eph. 1:4–5 MSG (Emphasis mine)

Beloved, in light of the current challenges to traditional marriage from the Supreme Court, I wanted to take a moment to share with you some truths from God's word.

Living Again After a Life of "ME"

How Do I Live in My New Name Now After I Have Built My Whole Life and Family on Performance?

There are no quick fixes to a heart that has fed off performance for it's entire life. As most of you know from my story, I had built my entire name around my career in the NFL, and being a pastor of a growing church.. Jesus and His Dad have had to work overtime on my heart!!  I'm not saying that all performance is bad.  Paul writes that we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, that God has prepared in advance for us to do. So releasing the gifts and calling of God in your life is a great thing. The problem comes when, like my younger self, your name and identity comes from your performance.  Football Player, for example.  That's something you do, not who you are.  Our Father in heaven wants us to find our identity in Him, in His Son, and in His love.  God, in His tender mercy is so good at exposing those places in our hearts that are confused in identity - naming ourselves by our works and talents.

Walking in the Blessing.. EVERYDAY!

We're starting a new blog series that we'll be updating from time to time. If you've read my new book, you'll notice a series of questions in the epilogue entitled, "The Father's Game Plan for Winning Back Your Family". I wanted to have a place to share the answers to the questions I'm most often asked at conferences and give you the tools you need to live as the Beloved and win back the hearts of your family! You'll find all those tools and more in this new series!

How do I walk out this blessing everyday for the rest of my life?

The blessing of the Father was, for me, one of the most significant moments of healing in my life. I began walking in that new season by creating a morning routine that really changed my life and opened my heart up to the blessings of God.

What I had been missing most throughout my life was time with my father who died before I was born. What the Father wanted most was time with me! His only Son won me back so He could be my Dad! 2 Corinthians 6:18 says, "And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty." When I read that verse, I thought, "Well, if You want to be my Dad now, I've got some questions... and I'm gonna need some daddy time." I learned that term from my two daughters, who were always coming up to me and saying, "I need some daddy time! I miss you and I want to talk."
